Namaste to Mrs.

One of my favorite parts about my job is connecting with my couples.  Jill and Mike are very special to me because they were my very FIRST booking as CWBM.  When I first with them, I felt instantly comfortable.  Their deep love for one another was obvious and although they wanted a beautiful wedding, you could tell that the day was more about their love for one another than the place settings on the tables.  Jill and Mike got married on a picturesque farm in Troy, OH over labor day weekend.  I have to say that I have never seen a bride on her wedding day as calm as Jill.  You could tell that she was taking in the day and enjoying every moment.  I was absolutely thrilled when Jill contacted me after her and Mike’s wedding to intern with me this summer.  I knew her calm spirit was the perfect addition to our team.

Jill has decided to write her first CWBM blog post on what helped her stay calm, cool and collective on her wedding day.  Take it away, Jill …

You may have spent the last year stressing over the perfect fonts, floral arrangements, signature drink cocktails, the colors of bridesmaid dresses, the perfect hairstyle to go with your perfect dress, and the list goes on and on when it comes to planning a wedding.

Your wedding day will be one of the best days of your life. It also goes by quickly. So.Quickly. On top of the excitement of marrying your best friend, there is so much hustle and bustle during the day between hair, makeup, photos and all the other small, behind the scenes things that go into a wedding (unless you have Cincy Weddings by Maura by your side ☺).
It can be easy to forget that weddings are all about connecting. First, obviously, with your future spouse, but also with your friends, family, and those random plus-ones you later realize probably didn’t need to be there in the first place. One way I helped myself relax on the morning of my own wedding was to practice yoga. I am admittedly a “newbie” yogi, but after trying yoga for the first time and practicing yoga in the months leading up to my wedding, I was hooked. I knew I wanted to start my wedding day feeling relaxed and centered as my husband and I committed the rest of our lives together. Yoga was the perfect way to achieve this. My amazing bridesmaids joined me for a calming restorative yoga class that morning, and it turned into one of the favorite parts of my wedding day.

Me and my beautiful bridesmaids after practicing yoga … don’t we look relaxed??

Me and my beautiful bridesmaids after practicing yoga … don’t we look relaxed??

I got married outside of Cincinnati, but I wondered if anyone offered wedding day yoga services in the Cincinnati area so brides in this area could have the same wonderful experience as me and my bridesmaids. I heard about Cincinnati Bridal Yoga, so I recently reached out to Trisha Durham to find out more about this exciting company she started!
What inspired you to start Cincinnati Bridal Yoga?
I started Cincinnati Bridal Yoga after planning my own wedding and wishing that I could have someone create and guide me and my closest friends in a beautiful yoga class before the wedding. I wanted other brides to be able to experience that.

Tell us about your background.
Well, when I’m not practicing or teaching yoga I’m dancing or training in aerial arts. I’ve been a mover my whole life. Previously with the Dayton Ballet and currently as an independent artist that collaborates with various Cincinnati based arts organizations.

Why should a bride consider practicing yoga on her wedding day?
Oh there are so many reasons! Your wedding is the happiest day of your life, but it can also be one of the most stressful – from the long planning process to the pressure to please everyone. Yoga can help reduce wedding day stress so that you can slow down and enjoy and remember every moment of your big day. Yoga is known to reduce anxiety, boost happiness and of course give you better posture and confidence.

Is Cincinnati Bridal Yoga appropriate for yogis of all levels or people who have never done it before?
Cincinnati Bridal Yoga is accessible to all levels of people – even those who have never done yoga. Many of our brides and their guests are a mixed levels group and we accommodate that so everyone can participate and benefit from the experience. And what better time to try yoga for the first time than your wedding?
Do you practice a particular type of yoga? Hatha, restorative, etc?
We offer a variety of styles – everything from gentle yoga, partner yoga, to an active vinyasa flow. Once a client books a class we work with them on everything from the music playlist to the style of yoga.  We let the bride choose the style of yoga that she wants for her bridal yoga class. The most popular is a gently restorative class that helps everyone connect with their breath and feel more present in their body.

Does CBY have a studio where you meet or do you meet brides somewhere else?
Both! Cincinnati Bridal Yoga holds its classes at the beautiful studio space, The Shakti Factory. The studio has everything guests might need such as extra yoga mats and blocks. We will also meet brides at their location of choice – whether it’s their home, or reception space.

Do you only practice in the immediate Cinci area or do you travel?
Most of our clients are within the Greater Cincinnati area, but destination bridal yoga can be arranged.

Are there other events brides can have CBY help with other than their wedding day?
Yes, although wedding day yoga is the most popular, we also do yoga classes for bridal showers, and blissful bachelorette parties.

Do you have any advice for brides and grooms?
As a long time yogi and newlywed, my advice to brides and grooms is to always return to the breath. When there’s that feeling of overwhelm turn your awareness inward to notice your breathing. It works every time.
